For the last 2 years I have been talking about how I would like to do a triathlon, how I would like to do Ironman. 4 months ago I heard about a guy named Stuart Hoy and the concept of Lifestruck. Stuart and I met at Vida Cafe in Sandton where he set about being curious about my goals. I had been sitting at the base of Kilimanjaro looking at the mountain and wishing I could climb.
What Lifestruck has done for me is IGNITE….What does that mean? It means I stopped staring at the mountain and found a way to start climbing and I also started believing that it is possible to reach the summit. The trick is to climb one step at a time. Take a rest at base camp when it is required. Get support from the team and keep going.
I had an appointment with the Biokineticist, got a training programme and was on my way. I was introduced to Total Immersion to improve my swimming technique.
To date, I have done 3 triathlons, one of which is an Olympic distance triathlon. Swimming is my weakness, and my worst nightmare. I especially dread open-water swimming. However, I have realised that it is possible. Today, I completed the Global11 triathlon at SunCity – I feel really proud of myself. In the beginning I was scared and I had Stuart motivating me and telling me I can do it. He was right. As my son looked at my medal this evening he said “I am proud of you mum”.
I am on my way to 70.3 and Ironman in 2011.
Lifestruck has ignited the potential I have within me to Push Past Possible… Thanks Stuart.
